What Badge Format Should You Choose?

RFID technology comes in several forms, each suited to specific uses

How Does It Work?

An RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) badge contains a chip and an antenna that communicate wirelessly with a reader. Simply bring it close to a terminal for fast, contactless identification.

What Are the Different Types of RFID Badges? It all depends on your needs:

RFID STid credentials range

13.56 MHz (High Frequency)

The best option for security. Commonly used for transit cards, contactless payments, and secure access, it allows encrypted data exchange and offers much stronger protection.

UHF Badge (Ultra High Frequency – 860–960 MHz)

Perfect for large-scale access control (toll gates, parking, logistics). Its long-range signal enables fast identification from a distance.

125 kHz (Low Frequency)

Best avoided! This older technology, still used in some access systems (buildings, parking lots), is now too easy to duplicate and can be hacked in seconds.

What Badge Format Should You Choose?

Classic Card

The most common format, ideal for employees or residents. Easy to store in a wallet or wear on a lanyard.

Key Fob Badge

Compact and convenient—great for quick access without taking out a card.

13.56 MHz RFID Label

A clever solution! Stick this onto an old 125 kHz badge to upgrade without full replacement.

RFID Wristband

Perfect for gyms, hotels, or events, offering hands-free access.

Which Badge for Which Use?

Office Access

13.56 MHz badge with secure encryption.

Parking & Warehouses

UHF badge for long-range reading.

In Summary

Choose your RFID badge based on the frequency that matches your needs:

  • Low frequency for basic use
  • High frequency for secure access
  • Ultra-high frequency for long-range identification

1 Minute to Understand RFID

RFID, or Radio Frequency Identification, is a technology that enables the identification and tracking of objects or individuals remotely using radio waves. Unlike barcodes or QR codes, RFID does not require direct contact, making it especially effective in many areas.
