APLIM, Automatic Systems, ITSI Systems, Scola Concept and STid are working together to secure and streamline access to Saint Charles school (northern France).

Modernizing access control systems

Saint Charles is the largest private school in the Essonne département, with 2,800 students coming in every day.

As part of its plans to secure the site, Saint Charles wanted to increase intruder protection and streamline access with a solution that adapts to different student timetables and parental permission for students to leave the site. Other key objectives: Saint Charles was looking for a solution that would help them fulfill their responsibilities for the students in their care and reassure parents.

In practical terms, they needed a solution capable of handling the mass arrival of students between 7:45 and 8am, students leaving early, and students leaving at the end of the day or if a teacher is absent.

Plans to modernize the site were therefore launched in line with the Specific Security Plan (PPMS). By implementing a PPMS, the school will be able to protect against threats and respond quickly in the event of an emergency. Access security plays a key role in this.

Safe modernization

This is the context for the entry and exit control system at Saint Charles implemented by APLIM, Automatic Systems, ITSI Systems, Scola Concept, which they synchronized with student timetables and parental permissions.

Students have a unique badge for accessing school and canteen areas. If a student attempts to leave the premises without permission, the security gate remains closed and an automatic notification is sent. If a teacher is absent or if a student has finished for the day and has parental permission, the system will let them leave.

For parents’ meetings, the school sends them a temporary access code by email that they enter into the reader at the entrance.

This is a 100% French solution coordinated by Scola Concept.

Several solutions have been implemented:

  • The range of security turnstiles, automatic arm barriers and retractable bollards by Automatic Systems.
  • The software and electronic access control interface by ITSI Systems.
  • Access control readers by STid :
    • ARCS One Blue : 14 narrow readers installed on the turnstiles.
    • ARCS-C Blue : 7 touchscreen/keypad ARC readers for resident and occasional visitor access (meetings).
    • ARCS-G/BT : 18 table readers for access to canteen areas.
    • SPECTRE : 2 readers for car park access for site residents.
  • 2 intercoms Aiphone to secure visitor arrivals.

« We provided over forty readers to equip the entire site. We are proud to combine our expertise with APLIM, Automatic Systems, ITSI Systems and Scola Concept to provide a comprehensive technological solution! » Alexandre Bargès, Sales Representative at STid.

A resounding success!

On the ground, the result has received the approval of students, parents, teaching staff and residents. And the added security also provides streamlined access!

The system now offers the following functions:

  • Access rights are synchronized with timetables.
  • Parental permission is taken into account.Student services have access to entry/exit logs and a list of who is on site at any given moment.
  • Student services have access to entry/exit logs and a list of who is on site at any given moment.
  • Access to canteen areas can be monitored and is compatible with tardiness logs.
  • Staff no longer have to manage school access. They can concentrate on providing teaching support and enforcing school rules.

« Streamlined access is key. One person can use the turnstiles every 2-3 seconds. This number of people needs trusted solutions and partners to ensure optimal management of all secured areas. » Cédric Namblard, CEO of Scola Concept.
